Bruno Philippe, cello

From Bach to Kodàly

Winner of prestigious international music competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Competition and the Queen Elisabeth Competition, cellist Bruno Philippe enchants and fascinates audiences wherever he goes. “Philippe’s principal virtues are the way he allows the music to dance and his easy, unforced manner of projection,” commented Gramophone magazine on his most recent album of J.S. Bach’s Suites for solo cello for the Harmonia mundi label. In addition to Bach’s First and Third Suites, he offers us sonatas by Ligeti and Kodály, also for solo cello.

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750)
Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007

György Ligeti  (1923 – 2006)
Sonata for cello

Zoltán Kodály (1882 – 1967)
Sonata for cello
