Jubilant opening!

2026 Opening concert

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Festival International Bach Montréal inaugurates its anniversary edition by bringing together two giants of the 18th century: Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Handel in a festive program.
The direction of the Festival Orchestra has been entrusted to John Butt, conductor of the Dunedin Consort, for a triptych of landmark works from the baroque repertoire. Bach’s Magnificat unfolds the full splendour of sacred choral writing, while Handel’s Water Music evokes the grandeur of the English royal court. Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 crowns the evening with its infectious energy and virtuosic dialogue between the strings.
