Conférence & Café-croissant with Dominic Thibault

The Baroque Ghost in the Machine

Dominic Thibault (University of Montreal) will answer our questions about the emergence of the most modern tools in baroque music:

  • How far can technology—AI, algorithms, interfaces—really go in composing, and what do we gain (or lose) when machines take the podium?
  • At the heart of the debate: what remains irreducibly human—intuition, style, genius—and how to make it an ally rather than a rival.
  • Also on the agenda: how this changes our music consumption habits.

Dominic Thibault is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Music at the University of Montreal. A composer-improviser and coder, he explores composition and computer music, designs digital instruments, co-directs Laboratoire Formes·Ondes, and is a member of CIRMMT and OICRM. Ph.D. Huddersfield (2014), M.Mus UdeM (2011), he has carried out multiple projects with and without AI.
